Due to the success and high level of engagement of UCSA’s last online conference – #Constructing Futures – Part 1, Dr Stephen Fox, Executive Director University Campus St Albans is hosting a free online conference on Thursday 10th September at 8.30 am: ‘Build Better, Build Faster and Build Greener’ Is the Government’s investment to upgrade buildings and build zero carbon affordable homes is enough to reset the construction industry?
Bringing together influential leaders from across the property and construction sectors will discuss if the Government’s investment to upgrade buildings and build zero carbon affordable homes is enough to reset the construction industry.
Key speakers from ilke Homes, Morgan Sindall, UK GBC, Willmott Dixon and Construction Innovation Hub (BRE) will share views from policy, retrofit, regeneration to offsite projects, and explore how sustainable the green investments are for construction.
Climate change is undoubtedly one of the greatest challenges of our time. The importance and urgency for the built environment to decarbonise cannot be understated. Buildings are responsible for more than 40% of global energy usage and one-third of green gas emissions. It is critical that action is taken now to promote a more rapid step-change in the construction industry transition to achieve net-zero targets.
As the Covid-19 pandemic gripped the country, the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has made significant financial commitments to create new green jobs, upgrade buildings to be energy efficient to maximise the impact on the current climate emergency. With investment being made, we have a unique opportunity to retrofit and build a greener UK. Some may take a different viewpoint and question the affordability of this strategy.
It is a critical time for the construction industry, and it is vital that we collaborate to ensure our industry continues to be one of the biggest contributors to the UK economy.
